Jingling Necklaces of the Middle East

A Bedouin woman's jewelry is her treasure. It is a walking bank account, which can be used as currency in markets, and its jingling symbolizes protection and status. Participants will create musical necklaces, with bells, glass, and metal beads. Instructed by Christy Puetz.
Egyptian Canopic Jar and Symbolic Bracelet

Ancient Egyptians used Canopic jars made of stone or clay during the mummification process. Symbolic miniature heads of Egyptian gods were depicted on the top of each jar as a means of protecting the contents. Using jars, colorful clay and beads, this workshop will guide you through a variety of projects, making your own version of a Canopic jar and a power bracelet. Instructed by Christy Puetz from the Bead Museum.

Classical Indian Dance: The Bharata Natyam

Indian dance instructor Asha Gopal will perform the Bharata Natyam, one of the oldest devotional classical Indian dance forms, originating in southern India. This highly stylized dance combines melody and rhythm with precise, forceful footwork and varied facial expressions to portray the vast range of human emotion.
